Indigenous Counselling & Trauma Therapy

Indigenous Counselling focuses on culturally informed techniques blended into the therapeutic relationship and process. It honours Etuaptmumk, the Two-Eyed Seeing approach.

"Two-Eyed Seeing refers to learning to see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous ways of knowing and from the other eye with the strengths of Western ways of knowing and to using both of these eyes together" (Elder Albert Marshall)

Trauma Therapy is more in-depth than counselling and involves restructuring the brain and nervous systems. Trauma Therapy focuses on healing the whole person and not just the mind so it is essential to include both the body and the brain in the healing process.

Heidi holds a deep respect for the cultural heritage of each client and offers support that considers all aspects of well-being. She believes in a collaborative approach, working closely with clients to develop a strong therapeutic alliance based on trust and mutual respect.

.

Heidi is committed to supporting individuals who have experienced trauma stemming from Residential Schools, racial discrimination and oppression, murdered and missing Indigenous peoples, cultural genocide, and forced assimilation. Heidi has extensive training and experience related to trauma recovery and works closely alongside the team at Indigenous Psychological Services (IPS) in order to provide the best care possible for Indigenous clients.
